Mamelodi Sundowns striker Jeremy Brockie believes that he can win this season's Premier Soccer League's (PSL) Golden Boot award.
The New Zealand international finally opened his scoring account for the season when he netted in their 3-1 win over Free State Stars at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium and he wants to be the reigning PSL champions' trusted goal provider.
“I always want to get on double figures and challenge for the golden boot because I think the top scorer has three goals or something like that,” Brockie told the SABC.
The current PSL top scorers Evans Rusike, James Keene (both SuperSport United), Khama Billiat of Kaizer Chiefs, Highlands Park's Mothobi Mvala, Orlando Pirates' Vincent Pule and Bloemfontein Celtic's Tshegofatso Mabasa are all on four goals.
“I've gone 13 months without a goal and I'm only two behind the top scorer...that's obviously a goal for every striker and the position I'm at is nice because I can see the top,” he said.
“But yeah am not sure how many goals we have scored as a club, but I know some clubs have variation of goalscorers, it's not coming from one player, but to win trophies you need a main goalscorer,” responded Brockie.
“After scoring the first one I am hoping to become that person,” added the former SuperSport hitman.
In addition, the bearded striker also known as the 'Sniper' said taking time to settle down at Masandawana brought unnecessary pressure on him whilst saying people started to doubt his abilities.
“I thought I would have adapted a little bit quicker at Sundowns and it would have been easier for me, but the longer the time goes without scoring the more you put pressure on yourself,” he admitted.
“More people start talking and they hide behind their phones on social media and give you a lot of stick, by the way most of them are from (Orlando) Pirates and (Kaizer) Chiefs,” he concluded.
Moreover, Gaston Sirino is the leading scorer for coach Pitso Mosimane's men with three goals and Brockie will hope to find the back of the net once again as they fight to retain their league crown.
Sundowns will return to action on November 27 as they resume their 2018/19 Caf Champions League campaign away to Equatorial Guinea's Leones Vegetarianos.
