Klopp hits out at 'idiot' Liverpool fans after Man City bus attack

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hit out at the "idiots" who threw cans and bottles at Manchester City's team bus outside Anfield on Wednesday. 

City were arriving at Liverpool's ground ahead of a Champions League quarter-final first leg, which the Reds won 3-0. 

The victory was slightly soured by the pre-game actions of a group of supporters, with Liverpool forced to issue a statement of apology.

And the Reds boss has criticised the fans who damaged City's bus, forcing Pep Guardiola's side to seek alternative transport for after the game. 

“I have to say again, apologies for what happened before the game,” Klopp told reporters.

“It is so strange because you go with your own bus through the crowd and it feels fantastic, it is passion. Then you come into the stadium and the first thing I heard is they smashed the bus of Man City and it kills everything in that moment for us.

“You cannot be happy about that, you don’t feel ‘it’ any more,” Klopp added. “Because of a few idiots it will maybe never happen again. It changed everything.

"The atmosphere during the game was one of the best I've experienced but these things that happened around it are not OK."

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool for the attack.
