Although Kedah edged Selangor 2-1 in their round 12 Malaysia Super League match on Saturday, new signing Paulo Rangel did not get on the score sheet in his debut for his new club.

Former Selangor and Terengganu striker Rangel had been signed as a mid-season replacement for Pablo Pallares, and was then cleared to make his first appearance for the Red Eagles, coincidentally against the Red Giants at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium.

He came on in the match as a substitute late in the first half, but could not help the visitors find the back of the net, although he had at least two chances to score in the second half.

In the post-match press conference, Kedah team manager Syed Khairol Anuar Syed Abidin expressed his confidence in the Brazilian, saying that he needs time to adapt to a new team.

"We used the first half to observe the opponents' tactics, and only then we decided to put Rangel on late in the first half. We believe he will develop his reading of the game further and work on his match fitness, so he can play for the full 90 minutes.

"He is good on the ball and can already adapt to our style of play. He will surely do better in the coming matches," said Khairol.

Baddrol Bakhtiar opened the scoring in the match in the 28th minute, before a defensive mistake led to Kedah's second, scored by Liridon Krasniqi in the 52nd minute. Substitute Syahmi Safari, playing in his first match since his lengthy injury, pulled one back for the hosts in the 71st minute, but they ultimately could not find the equaliser.
