The Damaturu side's tactician has expressed his relief at their fourth win of the campaign, which closed the gap to Abia Warriors to four points

Yobe Desert Stars head coach Taiye Yusuf has given the performance of his players a thumbs up after they beat FC Ifeanyi Ubah 2-0 in a Nigerian top-flight encounter last weekend, to secure their fourth win of the season.

Two goals, one in each half, from Philip Auta were enough to send the Anambra Warriors back to Nnewi empty handed.

Yusuf pointed out that, with a little but of luck, Yobe Desert Stars would not have flirted with the relegation zone, but was adamant that they will keep on fighting until the end of the season to see if it will be possible for them to escape the drop.

“We were extremely happy to record another home win after a long while,” Yusuf told Goal.

“We have been expecting this important win for a long time and we have been working so hard for it. It was a relief for us after the referee ended the game to secure these points and further boost our chances of remaining in the premier league at the end of the season.

We know it will be difficult but we are ready for the battle.

“We know that with more improved officiating and a little luck we could have secured more points than we have at present.

"We will continue to do our best to ensure that we get enough points that will guarantee us at least another season in the elite division. We will go into the next game against Heartland with that belief also.”

Yobe Stars are at the bottom of Group B in the Nigerian Professional Football League with 14 points from 16 games and they will face Heartland in Okigwe next week.
