ISL 2018-19: Delhi Dynamos' Josep Gombau encouraged by second-half show

Delhi Dynamos head coach Josep Gombau feels encouraged by the second-half display of his players in their 1-2 loss to ATK on Wednesday.

Skipper Pritam Kotal had managed to even the scores after Balwant Singh gave ATK the upper hand in the first half. Substitute El Maimouni came on late and scored to take away the plaudits.

"I think we played a good game. In the first half, I think we didn’t start strong and ATK had more of the ball. But in the last 20 minutes of the first half we started to play well and in the second half, I think we definitely had a good game. We had our chance to win the game in the second half. Then in one transition, they scored the goal. In my opinion, in the second half, we were much better," Gombau said.

He further added, "We tried to build up from the back and in the beginning, we saw so much of the ball but gave the ball to them. But in the second half and in the last 20 minutes of the first half we played well, had the ball and created chances."

Youngster Shubham Sarangi partnered Vinit Rai in midfield for the Lions. Gombau reckons the midfielder has a good future.

"He’s a very young player. He was in the starting lineup for two games. I think he has a good future. He’s a player that came from our youth team. He’s a player I like."
