ISL 2017: Wes Brown - Kerala Blasters should take the game to Mumbai City

Its good news for Kerala Blasters fans as Wes Brown has regained full fitness ahead of their crucial Indian Super League (ISL) tie against Mumbai City FC this weekend. The Yellows have struggled to make the most of their home advantage having been involved in two goal-less draws so far.

“I'm fully fit now. The two lads (Sandesh Jhingan and Nemanja Lakic-Pesic) have been brilliant at the back. I'm just looking now to obviously be more involved in the game.

“I don't think I will be playing in midfield anytime soon. The gaffer (Rene Meulensteen)has changed it around a little bit. Arata (Izumi) is a great player and has shown it in training every day. He is playing a more holding role. We have got people in midfield who are capable,” said the former Blackburn Rovers defender.

The 38-year-old acknowledged the fact that Kerala Blasters need to be more attacking in their approach in their third home game if they are to pick their first three points of the season.

“We have drawn two games. We need to start scoring goals and winning games The defence has been brilliant. We were looking forward to the next game now against Mumbai. We have been working on our attacking play. The first game was difficult as it was a new challenge. We are all settled in now.

“If you look at the results now, most teams are letting in goals. This shows that we can score against them (Mumbai). I am sure we will have a meeting today or tomorrow on how to do that. I think they will probably stick to the same tactics. They will try and catch us off guard. We have got to be on our toes. We are at home and have to try and take it to them early,” said the experienced centre-back.

Iain Hume, who is the all-time top scorer in the ISL, has struggled to get off the blocks and has been substituted after the hour mark in both their games. The former Leicester City striker hasn’t got any service from midfield and hence looked off colour.

However, Brown backed Hume to come good in the coming matches.

“Hume is the all-time top scorer and he is brilliant. You can see why he has got that to his name,” signed off the former England international.
