ISL 2017: ATK sign former Newcastle United player Ryan Taylor to replace injured Carl Baker

Defending Indian Super League (ISL) champions ATK have roped in former Newcastle United player Ryan Taylor as a replacement for an injured Carl Baker who will miss the whole of this season. Baker, who suffered an Achilles Tendon injury during pre-season, has not played a single game for the club in the tournament.

33-year-old Ryan Taylor is a versatile player who has represented the England U-21 side. He has the potential to play as a full-back or across the midfield and has excellent dead-ball skills.

The English player began his career at Tranmere Rovers in 2002 and made 122 league and cup appearances in three full seasons with the club. He was voted as Tranmere's Player of the Year and onto the PFA Team of the Year in 2004–05 season.

The player has plied his trade with top English clubs like Wigan Athletic, Hull City and The Magpies. He was an integral part of the Newcastle United side who had won the 2009–10 EFL Championship and gained promotion to the Premier League.

After joining the reigning champions, Taylor expressed his joy by saying, "I am very excited to play for ATK. I know ATK has a huge fan following who share a high level of passion for their team. I will give my best, for the team and we will get back to winning ways."

The Kolkata based side are currently struggling at the bottom of the league table with just two points from four matches. Teddy Sheringham's boys are yet to register a win in the competition.
