ISL 2017: Delhi Dynamos FC sign Venezuelan defender Gabriel Alejandro Cichero

Delhi Dynamos FC has announced the signing of their fourth foreign recruit for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League. The capital based outfit has secured the signature of defender Gabriel Alejandro Cichero of Venezuela.

The Venezuela international becomes the fourth South American player and the first from his country to be signed by head coach Miguel Angel Portugal for Delhi Dynamos.

The 33-year-old defender has won 63 caps for his country while scoring four goals and is a part of the Venezuelan team for the ongoing FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers in South America.

The veteran defender, also capable of playing as a fullback, has plied his trade with the likes of New York Red Bulls, Nantes, Lens and Newell’s Old Boys.

He was last involved with Deportivo Lara in the Venezuelan top division before his move to Delhi Dynamos.

Upon completing his transfer, Cichero said: “I am very happy to join Delhi Dynamos. Football is my life, and I will work hard and help the team to achieve the objective of being the champions of the ISL. Happy to see a lot of South American players in the team, the adaptation will be faster for all of us. I want to thank Coach Portugal and all staff of the team for this opportunity.”

He has represented Venezuela numerous times and has played in extremely high profile tournaments. Gabriel is going to be a tenacious defender for the Lions this year and I can't wait to see the havoc he will inflict on opposing teams,” Delhi Dynamos Director Rohan Sharma said.

Cichero, who is the 15th most capped footballer in Venezuela, has already had a taste of India when he was part of the national squad which took on Lionel Messi’s Argentina in a friendly in Kolkata back in 2011.
