Iceland shirt sales up by 1800% on back of Euro 2016 success

Sales of Iceland's home shirt have risen by an astronomical 1800 per cent on the back of their remarkable Euro 2016 campaign, one online retailer has revealed.

The minnows sent shockwaves around the continent after booking their place in the knockout stages by going unbeaten in Group F, finishing above both Portugal and Austria.

Iceland secured back-to-back draws against Portugal and Hungary before beating Austria to set up a clash with England in the round of 16.

And it appears Iceland's unprecedented rise to prominence has captured the imagination of football fans from around the globe, with sales of their blue home jersey going through the roof.

Unisport, the largest football gear retailer in Scandinavia, have released information detailing Iceland's home shirt as the sixth-best seller on their website with no stock left.

“Before the tournament we already had high expectations for the Iceland-shirt, but it has far exceeded our original estimations,” Filip Domagala, managing director at Unisport, said.

“The shirt is one of the tenth most sold shirts, and is only just behind national teams like France and England. We could have sold many more, if it was possible to get a hold of the shirt, that has now become cult.”

World champions Germany top the list on the Danish company's website ahead of tournament hosts France, while England's white home jersey is the fifth-best and Czech Republic's is the least popular.
