Churchill Brothers have decided to show the door to their two Brazilian recruits Romualdo dos Santos and Matheus after the South American duo failed to impress Romanian coach Peter Gigiu.
After having a look at both the players in the pre-season camp of Churchill, Gigiu decided that the players lack pace and would not add quality to his existing squad.
The Red Machines have retained forward Cisse Gwada, Lebanese defender Eldor Hussain and former East Bengal striker Willis Plaza from the previous season. They have also brought in Ugandan midfielder Khalid Aucho to add steel at the centre of the park.
As far as Churchill's participation in I-League is concerned, their fate still hangs in the air. The All India Football Federation's (AIFF) league committee paid heed to Churchill’s plea to consider their entry into the top-tier league this year after they finished ninth and were relegated to the second division. The committee upon due consideration had forwarded the matter to an emergency committee which will look into the matter on a later date.
Alemao Churchill, owner of the family-run club, had requested AIFF to review their relegation on the grounds that Churchill is the only representative in I-League from Goa and scrapping them off would prove detrimental to Goan football.
