Gor Mahia midfielder: Kenya is above Tanzania

Gor Mahia's midfielder Jeane Baptiste Mugiraneza says Kenya's playing standards are far above Tanzania.

The midfielder joined Gor Mahia in the beginning of the season after his contract with Azam FC of Tanzania had expired. The Rwandan says his club played well and managed to hold Everton, a thing that many African teams could not do.

Wayne Rooney took just 34 minutes to mark his return to boyhood club, bending a stunning 30-yard strike past keeper Boniface Oluoch to break the deadlock in the 2-1 pre-season friendly win over K'Ogalo in Tanzania.

After Rooney fired Everton ahead, Jacques Tuyisenge then grabbed an equaliser for Gor Mahia minutes later but Kieran Dowell handed the Blues victory with another spectacular strike from outside the box.

Muginareza is now confident that Gor Mahia are above their East African neighbours. "Honestly speaking Kenya's standards are way far above Tanzania and that has been proved on the pitch by the way Gor Mahia played.

"I think the reason behind our good game is the type of training we have, and the fact that we are in the middle of the league. Every player was fit and ready for the match, and we are really happy with our performance," Tuyisenge told Goal.
