Giovani dos Santos, Jonathan dos Santos, Carlos Vela called up for Mexico friendly

The Los Angeles contingent will be present in San Antonio.

LA Galaxy duo Giovani dos Santos and Jonathan dos Santos and LAFC forward Carlos Vela were called up for the Mexico national team's friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Jan. 31 game in the Alamodome does not fall in a FIFA window, and Mexico will play with a team drawn largely from Liga MX. However, with MLS in preseason, the Dos Santos brothers and Vela also are set to take part.

"The three players were recently visited by Juan Carlos Osorio in Los Angeles, California and, after checking on their physical status, Dennis te Kloese, director of national teams, started the process of communication with their clubs which gave permission for the players to participate in this match that does not take place on a FIFA date," a news release from the Mexican federation reads.

Gio dos Santos joined the Galaxy midway through the 2015 season with Jona following in the summer of 2017. With stiff competition for attacking positions in the Mexico, Gio hoped to have a good November window but had to leave camp with an injury. Jona's place on the squad is more secure after strong showings in central midfield at the 2017 Confederations Cup.

Vela is yet to play an MLS match, moving to the expansion side from Real Sociedad in the winter. He said that despite taking a step down in competition, the transfer may result in him feeling more fresh this summer in Russia.

"I expect to play every minute. I think it's a good thing to be ready for the World Cup, if I am there -- I hope!" Vela told ESPN"When I was in Europe maybe you are tired for all year -- playing, training, training, training. [MLS-based players] are fresh. We can be at the World Cup in my best (form) of the season. I think like that, and I hope Osorio thinks like me."

The Liga MX-based players, who will make up the rest of the roster, will be announced Thursday.
