Leicester City defender Daniel Amartey is expected to resume training next week after a month on the sidelines, club boss Claude Puel has disclosed.

The Ghana international has been in the treatment room since picking up an injury in a Premier League clash with Bournemouth last month.

He consequently miss games against West Bromwich Albion, Chelsea and Brighton and Hove Albion, and is also well confirmed to watch Saturday's clash with Newcastle United from the stands.

“Daniel Amartey will come back with the team in the training session next week," Puel said in his club's fitness update ahead of Saturday's fixture.

“For Matty James, he has had surgery on Tuesday on his Achilles tendon and he will not be available until the end of the season.

"He will be ready for the next season.

“Of course, it’s difficult but it’s a good thing because he knows what his problem is.

"It’s not a big problem but now he needs patience and a good recovery. He will be ready for next season.”

A peripheral figure at King Power Stadium this season, Amartey has made just eight league appearances, involving six starts, so far.

His limited opportunities heightened reports of an exit during the January transfer window, having been linked with the likes of Championship side Aston Villa and German Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart.

He joined the Foxes from Danish outfit FC Copenhagen in January 2016, making five outings as Leicester won the league title the following May.
