Gbamin on target as Mainz 05 secure victory over Freiburg

Jean-Philippe Gbamin was on target as Mainz 05 secure a 3-1 victory over Freiburg in Saturday’s German Bundesliga game.

After claiming a win against Werder Bremen, Sandro Schwarz’s men clinched their second consecutive victory with the Ivorian playing a pivotal role in the tie.

Six minutes into the encounter, the midfielder put the 05ers in front after benefitting from Daniel Brosinski’s assist.

France youth international Jean Philippe Mateta - with Congolese roots - extended the lead in the 18th minute with Jean-Paul Boetius providing the assist.

Roland Sallai halved the deficit in the 72nd minute before Karim Onisiwo sealed the win with his 75th-minute effort.

Gbamin who has now scored two goals in his last two outings was on parade for the entire duration of the game.

With the performance, Mainz 05 are ninth in the log with 15 points from 11 games and will aim to build on this form when they host Borussia Dortmund on November 24.
