Former Crystal Palace coach De Boer likens Wilfried Zaha to Lionel Messi

In his analysis of the Crystal Palace star’s dribbling abilities, Frank De Boer has likened Wilfried Zaha to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

The Cote d'Ivoire international is renowned as one of English Premier League top dribblers which he has used to influence games for the Eagles, and also, get lashed out at by opposing defenders.

De Boer who worked briefly with Zaha during his short unsuccessful stint at Selhurst Park has analysed the fleet-footed forward’s trickery, which he admits has a semblance to the Argentine ace.

"What he has is a half step, you think as a defender you're going to touch the ball but he's so quick with it, he can make a half step, that he touches it with his other leg and you think you have the ball and you kick him,” De Boer told Sky Sports.

"Like Messi, always every pass or every step he can touch the ball, right foot or left foot, Zaha has that same quality, every step he can touch the ball and then you get a lot of kicks.

"One against one he's unbelievable, so quick in the first ten metres, inside, outside, a good Zaha is almost unstoppable in my opinion."

Zaha’s side lost to a late Junior Stanislas penalty in Monday night league game against Bournemouth.
