Fiorentina in swoop for Monaco starlet Diallo

EXCLUSIVE

Fiorentina hope to sign Monaco centre-back Abdou Diallo, but the 21-year-old will take his time to evaluate his options before deciding to leave the Ligue 1 champions.

Diallo featured only 11 times for Leonardo Jardim’s men last season and Goal understands that the Italian outfit could seek to sign him for between €3-5 million.

The France Under-21 captain, who recently turned out for his country against Albania and Cameroon, has a contract with the Stade Louis II outfit until 2021 but wants more playing time – something he could be offered in Florence.

However, he has made no commitment to leaving his current employers.

“I’m very young and I’m not going to spit in Monaco’s soup,” he said during a Facebook Live. “It was with this team I discovered Ligue 1 and played in the Champions League.

“For the last year, I’ve thought mainly collectively, but now I need to think personally because I need to play. I have a place in the Under-21 team to maintain and I need to continue my progression.”

Diallo finds his place in the Monaco side blocked by Kamil Glik and Jemerson, while Andrea Raggi remains Jardim’s preferred back-up option in the heart of the defence.
