FC Groningen respond to Lars Veldwijk reports

Bafana Bafana striker Lars Veldwijk has, according to reports in the Netherlands, been linked with a move to FC Groningen.

The forward is now in his last month of his loan spell with Aalesund and has impressed with five goals under his name since April following a frustrating spell in Belgium.

His parent club KV Kortjik is looking to bring him back soon after the expiry of his loan deal at the end of this month.

In an interview with the North Newspaper, FC Groningen director Hans Nijland commented on the rumours and their interest in the striker.

"Earlier this week I was phoned about the fact that we were talking to some Iranian and now it's Veldwijk. I'm not in any name. That would be very unwise," Nijland said.

Reports suggest that his former coach at PEC Zwolle, Ron Jans, who is now in charge of Groningen wants to reunite with Veldwijk.

He found the net 14 times during that campaign, and provided all goes according to plan, they will bring back the South African to try and revive his career in the Eredivisie.

Having been linked to Vitesse Arnhem a while back, it will be interesting to see where Veldwijk's next destination will be ahead of next season.
