Ex-Gor Mahia striker Ian Otieno joins Western Stima

Former Gor Mahia prodigy striker Ian Otieno has joined the Kenyan Premier League side Western Stima.

The promising forward penned a three-year deal with the newly promoted side after a vigorous one-month trial with Stima. He joined the side from Nairobi City Stars where he was on loan.

The player’s agent Joshua Ogonji confirmed to Goal the development: “I can confirm that he has signed for Western Stima on a three-year deal after a vigorous tryout that attracted over 20 players. This is a clear sign that he’s one of the best upcoming strikers in Kenya currently. I think it’s a good deal for Stima.”

The Kisumu County-based side gained promotion to the top tier after clinching the National Super League last season.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia are reportedly interested in the services of a striker from Kisumu County League.

K’Ogalo are monitoring Andrew ‘Waweru’ Otieno for a possible move. Otieno turns out for Lela FC, who are currently on top of the Kisumu County League with 58 points.

The little-known striker from Nyando attracted the attention of the record Kenyan champions after scoring 47 goals in 25 matches for Lela FC. “We are supposed to meet with Gor Mahia to iron out a few areas.”

Goal.com, however, understands that in the talks, Lela FC wants Gor Mahia to loan back the player to them until the end of the County League that still has eight games to go.

"Gor Mahia want to sign him then loan him out but I would rather they send him back to us because we are not yet through with the season," explained Ogonji, who prides himself in nurturing a number of players in the KPL, including Kevin Oluoch (Sony Sugar-retired), Elisha Otieno, Ali Abondo etc.
