UEFA Europa League final: The key men - Willian Borges

Willian will be one of the players to look out for as Arsenal take on Chelsea for the title in the summit clash at Baku...

One of the biggest contributing factor in Chelsea's waltz to the final of the 2018-19 Europa League has been Willian. As Arsenal await them in the grand clash, the Brazilian winger will be a key figure in Baku.

In his six years at Chelsea, Willian has always carried out his job thanklessly. This season was no different as the former Shakhtar Donetsk man has the most assists in the Europa League - seven.

This season as a whole, Willian has been a lot less amongst the goals but 8 of them in 55 total appearances across all competitions coupled with 14 assists speaks volumes of his quality.

Additionally, Maurizio Sarri has handed him captaincy duties twice in the Europa League. In both games, he either scored or set up a goal. His link-up play with Europa League top-scorer Olivier Giroud has been spectacular as he has assisted three out of the 10 goals.

Willian started the group stages with a bang, scoring a goal inside seven minutes against PAOK in Greece. His goal from a direct freekick against Vidi FC was also one of the best goals in the tournament.

In the early knockout stages, he was the architect-in-chief as Chelsea rolled past Malmo FF and Dynamo Kyiv with ease. Willian assisted four goals in as many games up until the Quarter final.

Slavia Praha were a tough nut to crack in the first leg of the final eight clash but it was again Willian who opened up Marcos Alonso who put Chelsea in the lead. He also rattled the bar, coming close to a second.

After a lukewarm semi-final tie with Eintracht Frankurt, where Chelsea could only win via shootouts, Willian will be eager to prove his mettle again as the London derby awaits in the capital city of Azerbaijan.
