Despite a season plagued with injuries, the People’s Elephant tactician is delighted that the Aba giants have achieved their target

Enyimba assistant coach Usman Abdallah is pleased to see his side in the top five of the Nigeria Professional Football League log.

The People’s Elephants are fourth with 38 points after 24 games and are five points behind league leaders, Lobi Stars.

Paul Aigbogun’s men held Heartland to a 1-1 draw in their last game and will have a chance to regroup thanks to a long break owing to the ongoing Fifa World Cup.

And the gaffer is happy his side were about to reach their 40-point target after despite the team’s injury worries.

“From the last three matches, we have set up a target for ourselves to secure nine points so that we will end up with 40 points before the World Cup break but we have to be delighted with what we have been able to achieve,” Abdallah told NPFL website.

“We achieved 100 per cent of that before we came to Owerri to face Heartland but we were able to get seven points from a possible nine and I will say I am satisfied with this.

“We were able to get into their 18-yard box more in the second half than we were in the first half. We had to improvise to raise this team because over 50 percent of our players are down with injuries.

“It has been like that since our last three matches and we have played with almost the same set of players. We had to play some players out of their normal position.”
