Abia Warriors’ player Sheriff Bashir says that the resignation of coach Okey Emordi will affect the team.

On Monday, the former Enyimba handler walked away, ending a two-month relationship, after strings of uninspiring results with the Uchendo Babes.

And the winger has said his team is saddened by the gaffer’s decision and might lead to another struggle in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

“It is a very sad one for us in Abia Warriors. We never knew that this could happen but this is the game of football,” Bashir told Goal.

“He’s a man we love He is one of the best in the game of football in Nigeria.

“It will affect the performance of the team but we will not let that affect us, we will try our possible best to play for him. Regardless of the current situation, his legacy still remains at the club.

“He is a very nice man, a cool-headed man. He brought us to the limelight and it was a privilege working with him,” he continued.

The Umuahia Township Stadium outfit has seen their performances drop after their early season promises which started with a surprise victory at league champions, Enugu Rangers.

The last game that had Emordi at the helms saw them suffer a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Ladan Bosso’s El Kanemi Warriors and the forward believes they can still turn the tide.

“We started well but now we are lagging behind in our performance. It has not been a good performance from us so far. Much was expected from us,” he explained.

“We started the league very well and we still believe we can turn the table, you know the game of football. I believe that we are going to bounce back.

“I’m very very sure we are coming back because we have good players including the management.''
