The Tshwane giants are reportedly closing in on the signature of Mekoa from the Team of Choice

According to reports, Maritzburg United midfielder Deolin Mekoa is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old’s recent performances have seen him win over a number of admirers, particularly, Mamelod Sundowns’ coach Pitso Mosimane, who is reportedly interested in bringing the School of Excellence graduate to Chloorkop.

Reports previously suggested that the Team of Choice had indeed received an offer from the Tshwane giants, but nothing was agreed or formalised.

Nonetheless, according to a Phakaaathi source, Mekoa is keen on a move to the African champions, having seen the rise of Keagan Dolly in the last few years under Mosimane.

“He has seen how Keagan (Dolly) managed a move overseas after impressing at Sundowns, especially during their Caf participation,” the source said.

“The continental competitions attract a lot of scouts and Mekoa wants to follow in Dolly’s footsteps,” the source concluded.

Mekoa is in his third season in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) since being promoted to the senior side by then Team of Choice coach Steve Komphela.

The former junior international’s desire to join one of South Africa’s big three clubs has been well documented.
