Chippa United will reportedly sack coach Dan Malesela this week following the team's poor start to the new season.

According to media reports, the Chilli Boys management has already made a decision on the future of the former Orlando Pirates defender, who returned to the club in the off-season.

Since his return to the Port Elizabeth-based outfit, Malesela has collected a single point from their first three league matches.

They have managed to score just three goals while letting in five in the process. Chippa United are currently placed 15th on the PSL log.

This despite the club signing no less than 15 new players prior to the start of the campaign.

Reports suggest that Eric Tinkler has already been lined up as a possible replacement for Malesela, who has had a love-hate relationship with the club.

Tinkler has been without a coaching job since his departure from SuperSport United at the start of 2018.

Should the reports prove to be true, Malesela would become the first coach to lose his job since the start of the current season.

Last season, Chippa narrowly missed out on a place in the top eight, finishing 10th on the log - a point behind Golden Arrows, who finished in position eight with 38 points.

During that time, they had three coaching changes - Chippa started the campaign with Malesela before replacing him with Teboho Moloi, who was at one stage his assistant at the same club.

Moloi was then fired towards the end of last term and his place was taken by Vladislav Heric.

Malesela is regarded as Chippa's longest serving coach although he has never finished a season with the club.

Manqoba Mngqithi remains the only coach to have been fired after just two games by Chippa United.

In August 2012, Chippa Mpengesi hired Mngqithi, only to show him the exit door after losing to both Mamelodi Sundowns and Free State Stars in the league.
