Columbus Crew midfielder Artur sustained a broken wrist Saturday night against the New York Red Bulls, Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter confirmed.

The Brazilian midfielder was injured on an awkward fall in the early stages of the contest, which the visiting Crew went on to lose 2-0. Artur was in noticeable pain after the fall and was immediately replaced by Mohammed Abu.

Following the contest, Berhalter told media Artur had sustained a serious injury.

Like it or not Gruezo is a star

“I think he was doing great so far,” Berhalter said of Artur's performance this season. “We were looking forward to seeing how he was going to react in this game.

“It’s unfortunate. He’s injured pretty badly — a broken wrist. And it doesn’t look good.”

Berhalter did not specify how long the midfielder would be out.

A loanee from San Paulo, Artur had started six of his side’s seven contests this season in a holding role alongside Wil Trapp. He has contributed one assist so far in his first season in MLS.

Columbus also lost defender Alex Crognale to injury late in the first half. Crognale was hurt sliding into Bradley Wright-Phillips, and to add insult to injury, conceded a penalty on the tackle.

Columbus is next in action April 29 at home against New York City FC.
