Christiansen reveals reasons behind Ashanti Gold exit

Ashanti Gold have parted ways with John Christiansen, seven months into his two-year contract.

The Danish coach, who was initially appointed as the Miners technical director in April, replaced C.K Akonnor two months later as head coach after the latter was relieved of his duties due to a disagreement with the club's management.

However, Christiansen claims that the suspension of Ghana Premier League in the wake of bribery and corruption scandals in the country's footall led to his sacking.

"It's true that I've parted ways with Ashanti Gold, but it was not my decision to leave the club so it wasn't a mutual termination," Christiansen told Fox FM.

"The club's management said they can't work with me anymore because there is no football activities ongoing in the country and they want to cut down cost," he added.

"I am now a free agent and will be ready to work with any Ghanaian or African club that will meet my demands. I want to help develop the game here and prove a point," he added.

Goal understands that Ashanti Gold are planning to replace Christiansen with a local coach.
