Ghana's chances to qualify for the 2018 Fifa World Cup have been hit by a fresh blow after Newcastle United midfielder Christian Atsu pulled out of game against Uganda.

The 25-year-old sustained an injury in the previous game against Congo and has been advised by his club to rest after playing through pains recently.

Asamoah Gyan and Harrison Afful have been ruled out of the said game through injuries while the Ayew brothers were snubbed by coach Kwesi Appiah.

However, Appiah believes the remainder of the squad can do the job against the Cranes.

“We tried to increase the number of players in camp should any one sustain any injury so that other players can fit in. However, it looks like injury situation is increasing day in and day out and it is a little frustrating but we are trying to manage with what we have currently," Appiah told the press in Nairobi.

"We were hoping to get the full house but unfortunately Thomas Agyepong, Harrison, Jonathan Mensah, Asamoah Gyan and Afriyie Aquah are all out.

“We are still monitoring the other players before the game on Saturday and that is why it is a national team. You don’t always depend on few players. We are hoping those in camp will give up their best to get victory for the nation,” he added.

Ghana sit third in Group E with five points behind Egypt and anything aside victory on Saturday will see them out of the race to qualify to the World Cup.
