Chelsea's Baba Rahman agrees loan move to Schalke

Baba Rahman has proved his fitness to Schalke as he closes on a return to the Bundesliga club on loan from Chelsea, Goal understands.

Schalke are hoping to make it an 18-month loan deal but Chelsea are currently deciding how to structure the length of the arrangement for Rahman.

All other parts of the move for Rahman, who joined Chelsea in a £22 million deal from Augsburg in 2015, have been completed, including the medical which was conducted on Friday last week.

Rahman has been in constant contact with Schalke, where he played last season, since returning to Chelsea to recover from an anterior cruciate ligament injury he sustained at the African Cup of Nations over a year ago.

The 23-year-old had interest from other clubs but preferred to return to Schalke with head coach Dominico Tedesco keen on bringing in the full-back, who has already been pictured on social media at the club's training ground.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to add a different left-sided defender after also loaning Kenedy to Newcastle United until the end of the season.

Roma's Emerson Palmieri is still expected to join before the transfer window closes for a fee of around £22 million, which is inclusive of add-ons.

Chelsea also want to add a striker but talks with Edin Dzeko appear to have stalled, with Michy Batshuayi and Charly Musonda likely to leave on loan.
