The former Red Devils star has called on Jose Mourinho;s side to believe in themselves as they prepare to chase down the English top-flight crown

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona is “confident” Jose Mourinho’s men can land the Premier League title in 2018-19.

Summer activity at Old Trafford has done little to inspire such confidence, with a quiet transfer window having come to a close with no deadline day activity.

Mourinho has aired his frustration on a regular basis when it comes to United’s preparations for the new season, but the time for talking is now over.

The Red Devils will open their campaign against Leicester City on Friday, with it vital that the struggles of the summer are not allowed to cast an unwelcome shadow.

Cantona believes a positive campaign can lie in store for United, with the iconic Frenchman still of the opinion that domestic dominance can be restored and a first top-flight crown since 2013 secured.

He said in a video posted on his Instagram channel: “This weekend is the start of the Premier League. Man United will play the first game.

“We believe in the players, so believe in yourselves. We are confident you can win the league this year.

“Come on United!”

We are confident.

While Mourinho had been hoping for more movement at Old Trafford over the summer, the Portuguese has declared himself happy with the squad he has to work with and hit out at “lies” of unrest in the Red Devils camp.

He said: "I have my players and I like my players. I like to work with my players, one lie repeated 1000 times is still a lie, but the perception of people is that it's true.

"When you repeat 1000 times that my relationship with my players is not good, a lie repeated 1000 times is still a lie. I like my players and my group.

"I enjoyed last season, the fight to finish where we finished and to manage the best position this club has had in five years. I'm going to enjoy this season.”
