Cameroon striker Leonard Kweuke nets brace in Turkey

In the wake of Cameroon’s mediocre opening performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, overlooked striker Leonard Kweuke was on fire in Rizespor’s 3-1 win over Alanyaspor on Saturday in the Super Lig.

The Turkish-based striker scored a brace as his side cruised to victory on Saturday.

Rizespor returned to winning ways with the win, their first Super Lig match of 2017 having suffered defeat in their last 2016 encounter.

The 29-year-old who also captains Karadeniz Atmacasi raced onto an Ozgur Cek inch perfect through ball in the second minute and fired his side ahead.

Dhurgham Ismail doubled the visitors' lead in the 34th minute and Rizespor took the 2-0 advantage to the interval.

In the second half, Kweuke returned for the third for Hikmet Karaman’s men and his second of the day to make it 3-0.

Alanyaspor pulled one back through Vagner Love who was brought on as a substitute and Glynor Plet also nodded home their second but it was already too late as Kweuke and co. hung on for the crucial three points.

The strikes were the Cameroonian international's fifth and sixth of the campaign in 13 appearances.

Despite his impressive campaign in Turkey, Kweuke did not make Hugo Broos’ squad for the Afcon in Gabon but having featured in the 2018 World Cup preliminary rounds recently, he will be hoping to return to the setup soon.
