Asiedu happy to join Middlesbrough

English Premier League side Middlesbrough have signed Okyeman Planners midfielder William Opoku Asiedu in a three-year deal.

The 19-year-old scored 11 goals for Planners in Zone 3 of Ghana's Division One League last season, as his side finished third behind winners Great Olympics and Heart of Lions.

He was swiftly sent on loan to Estonian giants FC Levadia Tallinn until end of the season, with an option for an additional season.

Asiedu insists he is ready to prove himself in the Meistriliiga which kicks off in March.

"I'm happy because as a young player, it is always your dream to be playing for top clubs. Middlesbrough is a club that can offer me the best of opportunities to realise my dream in life," Asiedu told Goal.

"I am aware of the fact that I have to prove myself at FC Levadia first before they can consider me in the first team for the English Premier League, so I'm hoping to do just that before next season begins."

He added: "I also want to play for the Black Stars and break records like Asamoah Gyan. I have started with the junior national team and although things didn't go as expected, I think I've garnered enough experience to develop into a fine footballer in the future."

Asiedu was part of Ghana U20 squad that failed to qualify for the 2017 Africa U20 Cup of Nations which kicks off this month in Zambia.
