Ashimeru arrives in Belgium to undergo trial with Standard Liege

Wafa midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has arrived in Belgium to undergo a two-week trial with Standard Liege, with reports suggesting that he will be handed a three-year deal if he is successful.

The 20-year-old caught the eye of the Reds' scouts following his fine performances in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season as well as Ghana's Black Stars B.

Wafa communications director George Ofusuhene Peprah has confirmed that they are expecting Ashimeru in a fortnight, adding that other players may join other European clubs if Ashimeru impresses Liege's technical team.

"It's true that Majeed Ashimeru has left Ghana to Belgium and he's going on trial at Standard Liege," Peprah told Metro FM.

"We believe in his talent. He will succeed during his time in Belgium for the trial. There is a possibility that a lot of the first team players will also join other clubs in Europe if Ashimeru is successful and lands a deal.

“We have a lot of quality players so his absence won't affect our campaign in the Ghana Premier League. We are still eyeing the trophy for the first time and will do everything possible to achieve it," he added.

Wafa are second on the league log with 43 points, one point behind Aduana Stars but they have two outstanding games against Ashanti Gold and Asante Kotoko.
