‘Anyone in the top four can still win the league’ – Mahrez warns Manchester City

Following Manchester City’s 2-1 triumph over Watford, Riyad Mahrez has warned his teammates against complacency and believes that the hunt for the English Premier League title is still wide open.

The Citizens are on course to defend last season’s title win as they remain unbeaten in the English top-flight this season.

The Etihad Stadium outfit sit atop of the Premier League table with 41 points from 15 games – five points above Liverpool while Chelsea and Arsenal occupy the third and fourth spots with 31 points and 30 points respectively.

“You are not going to win every game 4-0 or 5-0. Going through these types of games makes you stronger,” Mahrez told club website.

“We played very well up until the second goal.

“After that, we created more chances and tried to kill the game but in football when you are 2-0 up and the oppositions score, the crowd get behind them and it’s difficult.

“We are very happy to win and get the three points.

“Now we need to focus every three days. We need to be ready and at our top. Anyone in the top four can still win the league.

“Nothing is done and we need to keep working very hard for each other and the team and trying to win every game.”

The Algeria international who moved to Manchester on a club-record fee in the summer is enjoying a fine debut season in Pep Guardiola's team with five goals and two assists in 14 Premier League appearances so far.
