The Allianz Arena is located on the outskirts of Munich, approximately 10 kilometres north from the city centre.

Driving

If driving to the stadium, both the A9 and A99 highways are nearby. Take exit 73 Munchen-Frottmaning-Sud if coming from the A9. If you're arriving from the west on the A99, take exit 12b Munchen-Frottmaning-Nord.

Metro

The Allianz Arena is easily accessible by metro if taking public transportation. Take line 6 towards Garching-Hochbruck and get off at stop Frottmaning. Line 6 stops right in the heart of Munich's old town, at Marienplatz. It takes about 15 minutes to get there.

Tram

Trams run from both of Munich's major train stations (Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnhof) to Marienplatz.

When was Allianz Arena built?

The Allianz officially opened on May 30, 2005, when 1860 Munich and Nurnberg played one another. The following day, Bayern played in a friendly match against the German national team.

Munich's old Olympiastadion was replaced by the Allianz Arena. The first plans for a new stadium were drawn up in 1997, and while the city of Munich initially preferred to rebuild the Olympiastadion, they eventually agreed to the clubs' proposal for an entirely new stadium.

The Allianz Arena's construction began in October 2002, with a total investment of €340m (£284m) in the project.

What is Allianz Arena’s capacity?

The Allianz Arena has a total capacity of 75,000, with a standing capacity of 15,390.

For domestic games, the maximum capacity is 75,000, but this reduces to 70,000 for international fixtures.

The stadium's initial capacity was 69,000 before several expansion plans increased it to 75,000, primarily by creating extra space at the top of the upper tier and implementing stand optimisations.

Which teams play at Allianz Arena?

Until 2017, both Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich played at the Allianz Arena. However since then, Bayern have become the primary occupants of the stadium. The Germany national team also frequently plays there.

When the Allianz Arena was originally built in 2005, both Bayern and 1860 Munich had a 50 per cent stake in the stadium. However, a year later in 2006, Bayern claimed all 100% when 1860 Munich encountered financial difficulties. An agreement was made that 1860 Munich would become tenants of the stadium and continue to play their home games at the Allianz Arena.

However in 2017, 1860 Munich finished 16th in Germany’s third division, and were relegated via relegation play-offs. With that, their tenancy agreement with Bayern Munich came to an end and they returned back to Grunwalder Stadion, which had been their home until 1995.

Does Allianz Arena host music concerts & other events?

The Allianz Arena does not regularly host concerts but is scheduled to be the venue of Germany’s first ever National Football League (NFL) game.

The Allianz Arena will host a NFL regular-season game as part of the NFL International Series as confirmed on February 9, 2022. A second game at the venue has also been confirmed for the future.

The Allianz Arena also hosted four Euro 2020 matches and is set to host a number of games during the Euro 2024 Germany tournament.

Can you book an Allianz Arena tour?

Visitors can book a combo tour that includes a guided stadium tour as well as a visit to the Bayern Munich club museum (Bayern Erlebniswelt). The tour lasts 60 minutes and includes stops at the stands, changing rooms, players' tunnel, sponsor lounge, and press club.

The combi-tour costs €19 (£15), and is available every day of the week, except on event days, from 10am to 6pm.
