India has been clubbed with hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thailand and Bahrain in Group A of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup football to be held in the UAE after the official draw held on Friday. India was the first team to be picked from Pot 3 and hence slotted into the third spot in Group A.

Goal got in touch with former India international Subrata Bhattacharya to gather his thoughts about India's chances in the Asian Cup. He said, "India has a huge possibility to progress to the the next round. During our time we also played against Bahrain and UAE. That time we got the better of them. India should treat this as an opportunity to do well on the international stage. If India prepares well and they stick to a definite plan, then India has a huge chance of progressing."

The Arjuna awardee believes that there is not much difference in the level of India and Thailand and with good planning, India can advance past the group stage.

"It is not a tough group. Although Bahrain have performed well in their recent history, India can still beat them. If the players are motivated enough, then they can win. There is not much difference between Thailand and Indian football.

"I repeat that the coach and the players should try to make good use of this opportunity. I have seen some of their matches. They are trying hard, covering good distance and now they should concentrate on preparing well with a good tactical plan," stated Bhattacharya.
