India have been drawn into Group C along with Iran, Vietnam and Indonesia for the 2018 AFC U16 Championship. The draw was held on Thursday at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

The tournament will also be played in Malaysia between 20 September and 7 October 2018. India were placed in Pot 3 of the draw after qualifying as the runners-up from the qualification group.

It must be noted that Iran are the runners-up from the 2016 edition where India finished bottom of their group. Incidentally, Iran were in India's group in the 2016 edition as well and suffered a 3-0 loss.

Indonesia qualified to the tournament after winning their group which consisted of Thailand, Timor-Leste, Laos and Northern Mariana Islands. Vietnam were runners up among Australia, Cambodia and Mongolia.

A total of 16 teams will take part in the tournament which will also serve as a qualification platform for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup to be held in Peru, with the top four teams going through.

India's best ever result in the tournament was a quarter-final finish in 2002.

Here's the full draw:

Group A - Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Tajikistan
Group B - North Korea, Oman, Yemen, Jordan
Group C - Iran, Vietnam, India, Indonesia
Group D - Iraq, South Korea, Australia, Afghanistan
