Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
It took Manchester City a while to get going in the contest, but once they were in full flow they were unstoppable. A brace from Raheem Sterling along with strikes from Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero and Fabian Delph blew Crystal Palace away this afternoon. City maintain their lead on goal difference at the top of the Premier League table, while Palace extend their losing run to six matches along with their goal drought to start the campaign.

87' Sane has space down the left flank to raid forward, but for once he checks back to ensure that his side retain possession.

78' Sane raids down the left flank again and this time he fires the ball across the face of goal, but there's no blue shirt there to turn it home.

De Bruyne opened up the Palace defence down the right flank for Aguero's run. The Argentine fired the ball across the face of goal for the England man to slot the ball into an empty net. Too easy for City.
58' SAVE! Aguero weaves his way past Fosu-Mensah and Dann in the box and only has Hennessey to beat. However, the Welshman makes a solid stop with his legs to keep the strike ay bay.

De Bruyne released Sane into acres of space down the left and he put the ball on a plate for Sterling in the middle. The England winger only had to beat Hennessey with his effort and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Great play on the counter from the home side
49' City have come out of the traps fast in the second half and have not allowed the visitors to settle.
47' BLOCK! City are straight on the attack and Sane tees up Sterling in the box, but his effort is deflected behind for a corner.
46' We're back underway at the Etihad Stadium.
The players are back out for the second half, so we should be underway again shortly.
It took longer than anticipated, but Manchester City hold a 1-0 lead over Crystal Palace thanks to Leroy Sane's moment of magic. It had been a frustrating period of football for City before then as they struck the post, while Wayne Hennessey made a series of solid stops to deny them. At the other end Palace came close to breaking their duck this term, but Ruben Loftus-Cheek struck the post and then fired wide from close range. Just when it appeared the Eagles had held the home side in the first half. David Silva unlocked the defence, allowing Sane to apply the brilliant finish.

44' GOALLLLLLL!! SANE STRIKES! City take the lead just before the break through a wonderful goal from Sane. He combines with Silva down the left as the Spaniard lifts the ball over the Palace defence. The German controls the ball with his left foot to lift the ball over Dann before poking his effort through Hennessey's legs. An outstanding finish from the City winger.
42' OVER! City continue to probe and Fernandinho lifts a cross to the back post for Silva to head at goal, but the Spaniard can only guide his effort over the bar.
39' BLOCK! Quick passes between Silva, De Bruyne and Sane open up the left inside channel for the home side. However, Silva's low cross is cleared away by Dann at the near post.
37' The home side threaten down the left once again, but on this occasion Aguero can only guide his header over the bar.
35' City have not been at their fluent best and their finishing has not been on form this afternoon. The opportunities are still coming though, so there is encouragement for Guardiola and his team.
34' Townsend breaks away for the visitors and goes down under the challenge of Fernandinho. Somehow the Brazilian escapes a booking for a cynical challenge.
33' MISS! Aguero misses an absolute sitter. City should be ahead as Sane surges down the left flank and fires a low ball across the face of goal. Aguero latches on to the cross on his left foot, although it's slightly behind him. He sidefoots the ball towards the net, but lifts his strike over the bar. Terrible by the Argentine's high standards.
30' PENALTY SHOUT! Sane wants a penalty for the home side as he latches on to Silva's pass and goes down in the box. Fosu-Mensah slipped and caused the winger to tumble with him, but the referee has deemed it incidental contact.
Danilo
B. Mendy
Manchester City
29' Mendy has been forced off with his injury and is replaced by Danilo.
28' CHANCE! Palace should be ahead as Loftus-Cheek turns the ball wide of the post from close range. Townsend's crosss was deflected into his path, but he could on turn his first-time effort wide of the mark.
27' Palace are organised at the back and are dealing with the City threat with numbers behind the ball.
B. Mendy
Yellow Card
Manchester City
25' Mendy gets back to his feet, but is then booked by the referee for his challenge on Townsend.
24' Mendy and Townsend collide down the flank as the Palace man advances on a forward run. However, it's the City left-back that has come off worse, clutching his knee on the deck.
22' City catch the visitors short on numbers at the back and De Bruyne send a low ball across the face of goal, but it's too close to Hennessey, who makes the claim.
21' Benteke is doing a fine job of holding the ball up in the final third and it is allowing Palace's support players to flood forward.
20' There's space for Palace on the break behind the City full-backs, but they need to capitalise on moments like that.
19' OFF THE POST! Palace come within inches of breaking their scoring drought to start the term. Loftus-Cheek raids forward to the edge of the box and creates just enough space to get his strike away. It takes a deflection off Stones and heads towards the bottom corner. Unfortunately for Palace it strikes the woodwork and bounces clear.
16' SAVE! Sterling latches on to De Bruyne's ball over the top in the left inside channel. He cuts back on his right foot to shoot, but sees his effort saved by Hennessey.
14' Palace are under severe pressure at the back and are barely surviving at the moment.
13' CHANCES! From the resulting corner Silva connects on the volley only to see his effort block. Fernandinho has to score from close range, but he blasts his strike straight at Hennessey, who makes the stop. Aguero snatches at the rebound, but sends his effort over the bar,
12' BLOCK! All hands on deck for Palace at the back as Mendy raids forward down the right, but his blast is diverted behind by a wall of black shirts.
11' WIDE! De Bruyne weaves out of two challenges on the edge of the box before Sane takes over. The German launches a strike at goal, but can only fire wide of the target.
10' City are probing in possession, but are not moving the ball with great speed as of yet.
8' Hodgson is urging his players up the field to put pressure on City in possession, but there's the danger of the pace of Sane and Sterling to be wary of for Palace at the back.
7' OFF THE POST! City build down the right and De Bruyne swings a cross into the box. It skims off the head of Sakho on its way to the back post before clattering off the woodwork. Hennessey was beaten there and he along with the rest of the Palace defence are grateful as it bounces to safety.
5' BLOCK! Benteke controls a long ball well and surges into the left inside channel, but Stones gets a foot in to stop his progress. Schlupp collects and goes for the blast, only for the England defender to block his effort.
4' Palace clear their lines from the corner, but City are on the front immediately and have the visitors penned back inside their own half.
3' Mendy collects down the left flank and attempts to whip in a cross, but Fosu-Mensah is there to divert it behind.
2' An early foul on Schlupp by Sane stops the Palace man bringing the ball away from his own box.
1' We're underway at the Etihad Stadium.
The players are making their way out on to the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
STAT ATTACK! City have won nine out of their last 10 Premier League matches against Palace, including the last four on the bounce.
FLASHBACK! City hammered Palace in this fixture last season, putting five past Wayne Hennessey. Goals from David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Otamendi secured the win.
Hodgson has made three changes to the side that was beaten by Southampton last week. Patrick van Aanholt, Lukas Milivojevic and Mamadou Sakho come into the fold this afternoon. Sakho makes his first start since completing his £20m move from Liverpool to strengthen the Palace backline that has been vulnerable without his presence.
City have made one change to the side that beat Watford emphatically last week. Leroy Sane comes into the side to replace Gabriel Jesus after scoring a brace during the week against West Brom in the League Cup. Meanwhile, Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy retain their places in the back four.
Palace subs: Speroni, Ward, Tomkins, McArthur, Sako, Puncheon, Riedewald.
CRYSTAL PALACE (4-2-3-1): Hennessey; Fosu-Mensah, Dann, Sakho, Van Aanholt; Milivojevic, Cabaye; Townsend, Loftus-Cheek, Schlupp; Benteke.
Manchester City subs: Bravo, Danilo, Mangala, Delph, Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Toure.
MANCHESTER CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Mendy; De Bruyne, Silva, Fernandinho; Sterling, Sane, Aguero.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
Roy Hodgson suffered a defeat in his first match in charge and has been brought in to save the club from the drop. Tests don't come much harder than a trip to City and it may be a case of damage limitation this afternoon.
Palace broke the Premier League record last week in their defeat to Southampton for the longest goalscoring drought to start the term. The Eagles have suffered five defeats on the bounce and a sixth would send their already-fragile confidence to new depths.
They were unstoppable against Watford last week as Aguero notched a hat-trick, while Gabriel Jesus continued his excellent run of form. The duo will be aiming to inflict more woe on Palace this afternoon.
City have started to find their rhythm this season, scoring 11 goals in their last two Premier League matches. Pep Guardiola's men struggled in the early stages against Liverpool before Sergio Aguero put them ahead. Sadio Mane's dismissal opened the floodgates and they've haven't looked back since.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League match between Manchester City and Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium.
