K’Ogalo threw away the lead to settle for their second draw of the season

Chemelil Sugar handed a 10-man Gor Mahia their second draw of the season after both sides settled for a 2-2 draw in a midweek Kenyan Premier League match on Wednesday.

Before the shock result, Dylan Kerr side had registered an impressive eight wins and a draw, garnering a total of 25 points in the process.

K’Ogalo were poised for victory, but a courageous Chemelil came from two goals down to deny Dylan Kerr a chance to open a five-point lead at the top of the log.

A costly mistake by Boniface Oluoch denied Gor Mahia two vital points after the reigning champions were reduced to a man down following a second-half red card on the experienced goalkeeper.

Chemelil joined Tusker as the only other club to have snatched a point from undefeated Gor Mahia this campaign.

Ivorian international Ephraim Guikan scored his second successive KPL goal from a simple tap-in in the 27th minute, to double Gor Mahia's lead.

Gor Mahia had taken the lead through Humphrey Mieno who connected a perfectly delivered corner from Francis Kahata.

Mieno, who joined Gor Mahia in January from Tusker, opened the scores in the 10th minute to slightly destabilize a Chemelil side that has now gone for five matches unbeaten.

The Ivorian, Jacques Tuyisenge and Kahata had great opportunities to put the game beyond reach for Chemelil, but they were all denied by John Waw who stood tall between the sticks.

But Guikan’s bright evening was cut short immediately after the resumption when he was forced to pave way for substitute goalkeeper Peter Odhiambo.

Odhiambo was brought in after his goalkeeping partner, Oluoch was sent off for handling the ball outside the box.

Charles Okiya came off the bench to reduce the deficit after Chemelil took advantage of the numerical advantage to frustrate the league leaders at the Kericho Green Stadium.

Mwamlanga Benedicto leveled matters up in the 72nd minute to send a wave of confusion in Gor Mahia side as the Millers continued to dictate the pace.

A late rally from Chemelil for the match winner did not bear fruit after Gor Mahia held the nerves to settle for a single point.
