8th Finals
UEFA Europa League

That's all for today, goodbye!
Madrid have their first point in the Champions League this season, but stay bottom of Group B. They face a tough test against Inter in the competition next week, but before that, they face Huesca in LaLiga. Rose will be disappointed his side couldn't hold on for the win, but Gladbach are now unbeaten in six in all competitions. Next up for them is RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
Madrid leave it late to earn a 2-2 draw with Gladbach. The home side took the lead in the first half through Thuram when he fired his shot into the top-right corner. He then got a second after the break, latching onto Courtois' save and tapping in from close range. Benzema pulled one back for Madrid in the 87th minute with a brilliant overhead kick before Casemiro equalised in stoppage time with a close-range effort.
Sergio Ramos
90' + 3' It's another great cross into the box from Modric and Ramos just cushions the header down into Casemiro's path.
90' + 3' CASEMIRO EQUALISES! The Gladbach defenders drift towards the ball and leave Casemiro in space on the edge of the six-yard box. It's headed to him by Ramos and he turns it into the roof of the net first time. 2-2!
90' + 1' Into the first of four added minutes at the end of the game and Madrid are pushing for a late equaliser. Modric swings a good cross into the box from the left, but Gladbach have a lot of bodies back in the box and they clear their lines.
Yellow Card
89' Casemiro is booked after he slides in late on Herrmann.
87' Valverde's cross looks like it's going out of play, but Casemiro makes a late run to the far post to keep it in and set up Benzema.
K. Benzema
87' BENZEMA PULLS ONE BACK! It's good play from Casemiro who keeps the ball in play and heads it back into the middle. Benzema is in space and he fires his overhead kick into the roof of the net. 2-1!
F. Neuhaus
Yellow Card
85' Neuhaus catches Modric with a late tackle and picks up a yellow card.
84' Third change for Madrid now and it's Asensio making way for Rodrygo.
83' Modric takes the corner for Madrid and it's a good cross into the near post, where Varane flicks it on. Benzema is waiting at the far post, but it's just over his head and Ginter is behind him to clear it.
81' Neuhaus is a long way out from goal, but the space opens up ahead of him so he decides to have a shot. There's not a lot of power on his looping shot and it's straight at Courtois, who makes a comfortable save.
H. Wolf
L. Stindl
79' Stindl is also coming off, with Wolf on for him.
B. Embolo
A. Plea
79' Gladbach are making a double change now, with Plea making way for Embolo.
R. Bensebaini
Yellow Card
79' The pass into Bensebaini is played short and he slides in to try and win it back from Casemiro. It's a late challenge right in front of the referee which earns him a booking.
78' Thuram has become the second French player ever to score 2+ goals against Madrid in a European Cup/Champions League game, after Ludovic Giuly with Monaco in April 2004.
76' Plea picks up the ball on the right of the box, but Madrid have a lot of players back and he can't find any space. He tries to play in Stindl in the middle, but it's cut out by Ramos and Madrid come away with it.
74' CLOSE! Benzema squares the ball into the box from the byline on the left and he picks out Hazard's run. He takes it around his defender before firing a shot on goal, but he can only find the side netting.
73' Modric has put a number of crosses into the box from the left since coming on, but none of his team-mates are making the runs to get on the end of them. Gladbach have a lot of players back and are dealing with it well.
P. Herrmann
M. Thuram
71' Gladbach are also making a change and Thuram won't be able to go for a hat-trick as he's taken off for Herrmann.
L. Modrić
T. Kroos
71' Kroos is also coming off, with Modric on for him.
E. Hazard
Vinícius Júnior
70' Zidane is making a double change now and the first to make way is Vinicius, who's replaced by Hazard.
69' Kroos is standing over a free-kick for Madrid on the right and he swings a good cross into the box. Asensio is waiting for it on the edge of the area, but he hits his shot straight at Sommer and it's a comfortable one for the goalkeeper.
67' Madrid are still seeing a lot of the ball still can't find a way into the box. Vinicius finds himself on space on the left again, but it's a poor cross from him that's cleared by Elvedi.
65' CLOSE! It's another good throughball into the box from Neuhaus and this time, it's Stindl running onto it. He gets away from Ramos and hits the shot across goal first time, but it's just wide of the far post.
63' Madrid are starting to get frustrated now as they just can't find a way through Gladbach into the final third. Vinicius has space to run into down the left, but he's tracked all the way by Lainer who eventually nicks it off him.
61' GREAT SAVE! Madrid give the ball away again and Neuhaus plays in Plea with a good throughball. He's one-on-one with the goalkeeper and he takes his shot from the middle of the box, but Courtois sticks out a leg to deny him.
60' That second goal has given Gladbach an extra boost of confidence and they're not giving Madrid any time on the ball. They're closing them down high up the field and the visitors can't get out of their own half.
M. Thuram
58' THURAM SCORES AGAIN! Plea's drilled shot on the edge of the area is saved well by Courtois but he parries the ball straight to Thuram on the edge of the six-yard box. He's left with an easy tap-in to double the lead. 2-0 Gladbach!
57' It's a great bit of skill from Asensio between two Gladbach defenders as he backheels a pass into Casemiro. He tries to play it out wide to Valverde, but overhits the pass and sends it straight out of play.
L. Stindl
Yellow Card
55' Stindl picks up the first yellow card of the game after stepping across Asensio and pushing him off the ball.
53' It's a good break by Gladbach and Thuram lays the ball off to Kramer on the edge of the box. He dribbles away from Varane and into space on the left but Vazquez gets back to block his shot.
51' Gladbach are being penned back in their own half and they just can't get a touch on the ball at the moment. Lainer intercepts Casemiro's pass, but he gives it away again when he plays a sloppy throughball towards Kramer.
49' Madrid have started the second half on the front foot and Valverde makes a driving run down the right. He cuts inside before squaring the ball to Vinicius in the middle, but he slices his first-time shot high and wide of the goal.
47' OFF THE BAR! Gladbach don't clear their lines properly following a corner and the ball comes to Asensio on the left of the box. He hits his effort back across goal and it takes a deflection before bouncing back off the woodwork.
46' Gladbach get us back underway for the second half!
Zidane won't be happy that his side are behind at the break considering his side's performance. They've got into some dangerous positions, but they need to be a lot more clinical if they want to get back into the game. Gladbach have done well so far, absorbing the pressure and playing on the break, so Rose will be hoping for more of the same in the second half.
Thuram's goal gives Gladbach a 1-0 lead at half-time. Madrid dominated the first half but only tested Sommer a few times, with the keeper making good saves to deny Kroos and Asensio. Gladbach took the lead with their only shot on target when Plea played a lovely low cross into Thuram, who hit his shot first time and picked out the top-right corner.
44' Vinicius switches to the right to try and get on the ball and pulls away from Bensebaini. His first touch is a heavy one but he manages to keep hold of it and cross it to the far post. Benzema switched his run to the near post though and Gladbach are able to clear their lines.
42' Madrid look out of ideas on how to get in behind Gladbach at the moment as they continue to keep possession around the halfway line. Vazquez finds some space on the right, but his cross is overhit and flies out of play.
40' Madrid are being penned back in their own half now as Gladbach patiently play out from the back. They're looking to get in down the right through Hofmann, but his cross into the box is blocked by Mendy.
38' GOOD SAVE! Madrid are pushing forward again and Valverde picks out Asensio on the right of the box. He's at a tight angle but he decides to go for goal and try to catch Sommer out at his near post, but the goalkeeper smothers the shot.
37' Lainer plays a throughball down the right wing for Hofmann to run onto and it looks like he's got away from Mendy. The left-back receivers well though and makes a good tackle to win it back from him.
35' Just like before the goal, Madrid are keeping the ball well, but most of their possession is in their own half. They're trying to push forward, but they're struggling to find a way through Gladbach at the moment.
A. Plea
33' Plea pulls away from Mendy and curls a lovely low cross into the middle of the box to Thuram that takes the Madrid defenders out of the game.
M. Thuram
33' GLADBACH LEAD! And it's a brilliant goal! Madrid have a lot of chances to clear their lines, but they just can't do it. Plea plays a wonderful cross into him and Thuram hits the shot first time, firing it into the top-right corner of the net. 1-0 Gladbach!
31' Hofmann gets in behind Ramos and is picked out by Stindl's throughball. He makes a run to the left of the box before firing a shot back across goal which is blocked by Varane, but it wouldn't have counted anyway as the offside flag has gone up.
29' GOOD SAVE! The Gladbach defenders sit back as Kroos makes a run to the edge of the box so he decides to have a shot. His effort is curling in at the far post but Sommer gets two strong hands to it to tip it wide.
28' Kroos plays a loose pass forward and it's cut out by Lainer who instantly looks to set Gladbach on the attack. He plays a throughball forward to try and pick out Plea, but it's cut out by Casemiro.
26' Valverde weaves through Gladbach's midfield to try and get into the box, but he's tugged back by Stindl and wins a free-kick in a good position. Madrid choose to play it short instead of putting a cross into the box and Valverde can't keep it in.
24' Madrid are keeping the ball well at the moment and are happy to keep possession in their own half as they try to force Gladbach out of their own half. Some space opens up for Asensio down the right, but Hofmann nicks it off him.
22' It's a great run by Thuram down the left that isn't picked up by Madrid. He cuts inside to get into the box, but he takes too long to pick out a cross and Varane is able to get a foot to it. It almost falls to Plea, but Ramos is back to intercept it.
20' Sommer is put under pressure after Bensebaini plays the ball back to him. He has to backtrack so Asensio can't block his clearance before turning away from Benzema and clearing his lines.
18' Kroos floats a good cross into the middle of the box and Vinicius is the closest to it for Madrid. He brings it down well with his first touch but can't get a shot away as Elvedi slides in with a perfectly timed tackle to dispossess him.
16' GOOD CHANCE! Vazquez chips the ball over Gladbach's backline to pick out Benzema's run into the box. He chests it down and hits the shot on the volley, but fires his effort high and wide of the top-right corner.
14' Madrid have failed to win either of their previous two away trips to face Gladbach (D1 L1), with this their first visit since November 1985 when they lost 1-5 in the UEFA Cup last 16.
12' Lainer cuts inside from the right and has time to pick out his cross. He floats the ball towards the far post where Plea is running onto it, but Courtois comes rushing off his line to collect it.
10' Thuram knocks the ball past Valverde and has space to run into down the left. He plays a throughball forward for Plea to chase, but it's overhit and Varane gets to it first to win back possession.
8' Casemiro has the first chance of the game for Madrid when he finds himself in a pocket of space on the edge of the box. He drills his shot towards goal, but it's just wide of the near post.
6' Gladbach have barely had a touch of the ball in the game so far and they're on the back foot again. Vinicius turns past Kramer and is making a driving run into the box, but Ginter reads it well and makes an important tackle to dispossess him.
4' Madrid are on the attack again and this time, Kroos switches play out to Mendy on the left. He has Vinicius making an overlapping run on the outside, but his throughball is cut out by Lainer.
2' Benzema runs into space down the right and pulls away from Elvedi to whip a cross into the box. The goalkeeper is scrambling to his near post in case he needs to tip it over, but it lands on the roof of the net.
1' Benzema gets the game underway for Madrid!
