Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Barcelona are next in action in their Champions League quarter-final clash against Manchester United on Wednesday. Atletico host Celta Vigo in their next LaLiga outing, looking to fend off Real Madrid in the battle for second place.
Barcelona take a huge stride towards the LaLiga crown with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou this evening. Ernesto Valverde's men are now 11 points clear of Los Rojiblancos at the top with seven games remaining. It would take an almighty collapse from them to lose out now. The Catalan club left it late to secure the victory, although the goals came from familiar sources. Luis Suarez broke the deadlock after 85 minutes with a brilliant curling finish from the edge of the box, breaking Atletico's and Jan Oblak's resistance. Lionel Messi secured the win with a left-footed effort, allowing the Argentine to become the most successful player in LaLiga history, playing in his 335th all-time triumph in the competition. Atletico were unfortunate to lose in such a manner, especially after battling manfully for the majority of the game with 10 men after Diego Costa was sent off. The forward cost his team when he was dismissed for apparent foul and abusive language to the referee. Diego Simeone will look back at that moment as the one that will have ended his team's challenge for the title.
90' + 2' FULL-TIME: BARCELONA 2-0 ATLETICO MADRID
90' + 1' Frustration boils over for Saul as Rakitic catches him on the ankle. He squares up to the Barca man, but the referee brings the incident under control.
90' There will be two minutes of added time.
Juanfran
Rodri
88' Juanfran replaces Rodrigo for the visitors for the dying mintues.
L. Messi
Goal
86' GOALLLLLLLLLL!!!! MESSI MAKES IT TWO!!! BARCELONA 2-0!!! The dam has broken and Messi surely secures the win and potentially the LaLiga crown for Barca with a low strike. The Argentine found space on the right flank and surged into the inside channel. Fortune was on his side as Gimenez just lost out in the tackle, despite getting a foot to the ball. Even with a crowd of players surrouding him, Messi held his composure to pick his spot, finding the bottom corner.
L. Suárez
Yellow Card
86' Suarez is booked for his celebration after removing his shirt.
Jordi Alba
Assist
85' Alba slides an offload to Suarez on the edge of the box and the forward does the rest.
L. Suárez
Goal
85' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! SUAREZ GETS THE BREAKTHROUGH!!!! 1-0 BARCELONA!!! Out of nowhere the home side take the lead. Suarez collects the ball on the edge of the box and takes a touch to create room for a strike on his right foot. He bends his effort towards the bottom corner where it beats the outstretched hand of Oblak to nestle into the back of the net. The Uruguayan does it again for Barca.
Nélson Semedo
Sergi Roberto
84' Semedo replaces Sergi Roberto for the home side.
84' Frustration for Messi as he gathers the ball on the edge of the box. He tries to force a strike through a wall of red and white shirts, but Godin takes the sting out of his shot and allows Oblak to gather.
82' Atletico build down the left flank before Saul fires a low ball into the box. Morata tries to backheel an effort towards goal, but Pique makes a block. Saul gathers the rebound and tries to drive his attempt through a wall of Barca defenders, but is denied.
Carles Aleñá
Philippe Coutinho
80' Alena comes on to the field to replace Coutinho for the home side.
79' Saul is well positioned at the back for the visitors, heading Alba's cross away from the lurking presence of Malcom.
C. Lenglet
Yellow Card
78' Lenglet brings down Thomas on a break upfield and goes into the book.
76' Malcom cuts inside from the right flank and curls a dangerous low ball into the middle that evades every Barca player and trickles into the hands of Oblak.
75' OVER! Griezmann floats his delivery into the box and Rodrigo rises highest to head at goal, only to direct his attempt over the bar. That was a chance for the visitors and the midfielder knows it.
Piqué
Yellow Card
74' Pique brings down Morata on the left flank and it hands Atletico a free-kick in a dangerous position. The defender is booked for the challenge.
73' Griezmann breaks forward to the half-way line and is halted by Sergi Roberto. Simeone will not be thrilled that the Barcelona full-back avoided a booking.
Saúl
Yellow Card
71' Saul goes into the book for a foul on Busquets.
69' OBLAK! The Atletico keeper denies Barcelona. Messi opens up the Atletico defence with a neat one-two with Suarez. The Argentine sees his low strike at goal saved by Oblak. Malcom pounces on the rebound with a half-volley, but the Slovenian is on his feet quickly to make the second stop.
68' SAVE! Griezmann lines up his strike and he connects well on his left boot, but Ter Stegen watches it all the way to make the stop.
67' Pique brings down Correa in the final third and it will give Griezmann an opening to go for goal from the edge of the box on the right flank.
66' Barcelona pile numbers in and around the box. Suarez tries to turn to shoot, but he gets crowded out before he can get his effort away.
64' SAVE! Messi cuts infield from right to left before taking on a strike on his left foot. Oblak makes the stop, but drops the ball. However, the Atletico keeper manages to gather before Suarez in the box.
Malcom
Arthur
63' Malcom comes on to the field for Arthur. Barca are going for the kill by adding another attacker into the final third.
62' SAVE! Messi orchestrates another break at the Atletico defence. He surges from the half-way line to the edge of the box before teeing up Suarez for a strike in the left inside channel, only for the strike to be denied by Oblak.
60' Messi runs at the heart of the Atletico defence and tries to thread the needle to find Coutinho, but his pass goes inches astray allowing Oblak to gather.
Morata
Filipe Luís
58' Morata replaces Filipe Luis for the visitors. Another reshuffle in the Atletico formation that may see Griezmann drop back into the midfield.
58' Rakitic tries to break forward into the final third and he gets as far as the edge of the box before being halted by Godin. His appeal for a free-kick is dismissed by Manzano.
56' SAVE! Messi drops his shoulder to skip past Koke and Thomas in the middle of the park. He goes for a strike on his left foot from the edge of the box, but Oblak gets across to make the stop.
54' Suarez turns in tight quarters and wraps his foot around a strike from inside the box, but Gimenez is well placed to block his attempt.
52' OVER! Coutinho feeds Messi in the box, and before he gets crowded out the Argentine offloads to Busquets. The Spaniard goes for the first-time strike that he can only send over the bar.
51' Saul goes on a one-man mission for the visitors after winning the ball. He tries to get the better of Pique, only for the defender to edge him off the ball and clear for the Catalan club.
49' Barcelona are establishing a possession game to keep Atletico pinned in their own half. Expect this to be the pattern of the second half.
47' Atletico win an early free-kick and Koke swings the ball into the box. Godin wins the first header and knocks it towards Saul, but Sergi Roberto takes action to clear behind for the home side.
46' We're back underway at Camp Nou.
Atletico had been lively enough in the opening 28 minutes. Costa did head an effort over the bar, while Antoine Griezmann fired a strike straight at Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The red card changed their approach, forcing them into a rearguard action. Diego Simeone's men are one of the best defences in the world and their reputation will be put to the test in the second half by the Catalan club.
There were no goals in the first half between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, but there has been drama. Diego Costa was sent off in the 28th minute by referee Gil Manzano for the apparent use of foul and abusive language. The forward was straight in the face of the official after he did not get a decision in a clash with Lionel Messi. Manzano handed Costa a straight red card, while Jose Gimenez and Diego Godin were also booked. The home side had come close before the drama as Jordi Alba hit the post, while Philippe Coutinho saw an effort well saved by Jan Oblak. However, it has not been a thriller between LaLiga's top two sides yet.
45' + 3' HALF-TIME: BARCELONA 0-0 ATLETICO MADRID
45' + 3' CHANCE! Atletico press before the break, but Koke and Griezmann cannot combine in the box. Barca hit them on the counter as Messi releases Suarez down the right flank. He lifts a cross to the back post for Coutinho, who heads his effort into the ground, allowing Oblak to make the stop.
45' + 2' Atletico will be pleased to hear the half-time whistle. It will give Simeone time to organise his team after having to reshuffle quickly when Costa was dismissed.
45' There will be three minutes of added time.
44' SAVE! Barca show quick feet around the box as Rakitic and Suarez combine to tee up Messi for a strike. The Argentine doesn't quite connect with his attempt and Oblak makes a comfortable stop.
43' Suarez turns the ball around the corner down the left flank for Coutinho, but the Brazilian just cannot keep the ball in play even with a slide.
41' The game has devolved into a scrappy affair as the visitors are seemingly content to sit back and absorb pressure. Atletico had started the game ready to push back at the home side, but their approach since the red card has changed.
39' Godin plays a terrible backpass towards Oblak. Suarez interceps in the right inside channel and tries to work the ball back to Messi, but Godin recovers in time to make the interception. That was a close call for the Atletico skipper.
38' Atletico clear the resulting corner by the home side, but Barca come again through Suarez. The Uruguayan tries to force his way through the middle of the Atletico defence, but he was repelled by Godin.
37' Suarez latches on to an offload from Sergi Roberto down the right inside channel. He tries to force the ball across the face of goal, but sees his cross deflected behind for a corner.
Á. Correa
S. Arias
35' Correa replaces Arias for the visitors in a reshuffle of their formation.
33' Barcelona are not immediately looking to capitalise on their numerical advantage. They seem content to knock the ball around and wait for their moment.
31' Both teams have been taken out of their rhythm by the dismissal. It was out of nowhere and now Atletico have to battle on with 10 men.
D. Godín
Yellow Card
29' Godin is also booked for making his feelings known to the referee. It's not a good look for Atletico.
J. Giménez
Yellow Card
28' Gimenez is booked for appealing against the referee for Costa's dismissal.
Diego Costa
Red Card
28' OFF! COSTA IS GIVEN A STRAIGHT RED CARD! The Atletico forward has been given his marching orders by the referee. He was not happy with a decision and went straight up the official. He let his feelings known and seemingly overstepped the mark. Referee Jesus Gil Manzano brandished the red card, prompting a furious reaction from the Atletico players. Costa has to be escorted from the field by Pique of all people.
28' SAVE! Oblak denies Coutinho with a fine stop. The Brazilian collects on the edge of the box and takes a touch inside to get the better of Godin. He goes for a low drive that is well saved by the Atletico keeper.
T. Partey
Yellow Card
27' Thomas goes into the book for a foul on Rakitic.
25' Barca try to work the ball around the box between Alba, Suarez and Messi. The home side are guilty of playing one pass too many and allow Atletico to clear the danger.
23' OVER! Messi lines up the strike and he clips his effort over the wall, but it sails comfortable over the bar. A sighter perhaps from the Barca forward.
22' Rodrigo brings down Messi on the charge 25 yards from goal. The referee awards a foul and the Argentine has the opportunity to go for goal.
21' Griezmann is played into space down the right inside channel and he goes for a first-time strike. He gets his attempt on target, but it's straight at Ter Stegen.
20' OVER! A mistake in the midfield by the visitors allows Messi to surge forward. He releases Suarez down the right inside channel and the Uruguayan tries to return the pass. It gets blocked by Godin and instead Suarez goes for goal, but he blasts his effort over the bar.
19' Atletico are playing themselves into the game. They're not sitting back against the Catalan club.
17' Griezmann tries to work an opening through the middle of the field, but he gets crowded out by the Barca backline before he can pull the trigger.
16' BLOCK! Atletico press forward in response and Costa and Koke combine to release Arias in the right inside channel. However, the full-back takes a touch and then sees his strike blocked by Alba. He needed to hit that one first time.
14' OFF THE POST! Messi releases the run of Alba over the top and the Spaniard takes a brilliant first touch. He lifts the ball over Oblak for his second only to be denied by the post before Atletico clear the danger.
13' The home side look for the quick break as Coutinho lifts a pass over the top for Suarez. However, the forward cannot keep the ball in play on the byline in the right inside channel.
11' Barca keep the pressure on and Coutinho goes for the blast from 25 yards, only to see his effort blocked behind by Gimenez.
10' Messi weaves his way through the Atletico midfield and looks for Coutinho in the final third, but his offload is cut out by Gimenez.
9' OVER! Filipe Luis finds space down the left and he angles a cross deep to the back post for Costa. The forward gets between Alba and Lenglet, but can only guide his header over the bar.
7' Costa catches Lenglet late and gives away a free-kick. The home supporters are not happy with the Atletico forward for that one.
5' Barcelona are trying to establish an early rhythm in their passing game, but the visitors are restricting their ability to work across the pitch.
3' Gimenez goes for a blast from 35 yards for the visitors, only to plant his effort harmlessly into the stand behind the Barca goal.
2' Alba makes a surge down the left flank and he cuts a low ball back into the middle, but Rodrigo is well placed to clear for the visitors.
1' We're underway at Camp Nou.
Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 12 LaLiga games at Camp Nou against Atletico Madrid (W9 D3), with their last defeat against them there coming back in February 2006 (1-3).
Diego Costa comes into the team for Atletico's only change from their win over Girona. Morata is the man to make way from the starting line-up, while Arias continues at full-back ahead of Juanfran.
Barcelona have made three changes from their draw against Villarreal. Messi returns to the starting line-up after his important cameo during the week as Malcom makes way. Pique returns to the back four to oust Umtiti, who drops to the bench. Rakitic starts in the middle of the park as Arturo Vidal misses out due to suspension.
SUBS: Antonio Adan, Nikola Kalinic, Angel Correa, Stefan Savic, Juanfran, Alvaro Morata, Vitolo.
ATLETICO MADRID (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Santiago Arias, Jose Gimenez, Diego Godin, Filipe Luis; Saul Niguez, Rodrigo, Thomas Partey, Koke; Antoine Griezmann, Diego Costa.
SUBS: Nelson Semedo, Jasper Cillessen, Malcom, Jeison Murillo, Kevin-Prince Boateng, Carles Alena, Samuel Umtiti.
BARCELONA (4-3-3): Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Sergi Roberto; Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, Jordi Alba; Ivan Rakitic, Sergio Busquets, Arthur; Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho.
Atletico were forced to battle for their victory over Girona during the week to keep pace with Barca at the top. They were held at bay until the 76th minute when Diego Godin put his team ahead. Antoine Griezmann made sure of the win at the Wanda Metropolitano with a late strike to confirm the three points. Diego Simeone's men have responded well to their Champions League exit, but will need to be flawless to claim a win in Camp Nou.
Barcelona staged a dramatic comeback during the week against Villarreal to maintain an eight-point advantage over Atletico heading into today's showdown. Ernesto Valverde's men looked as though they were heading to defeat at 4-2 down in the final 10 minutes. However, Lionel Messi came off the bench to score a sublime free-kick before Luis Suarez blasted in an equaliser with the final kick of the game. The Catalan club should have all the momentum they need to take on Los Rojiblancos.
Good evening and welcome the live commentary of the LaLiga top-of-the-table clash between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou.
