Commentary

FULL-TIME: ADELAIDE UNITED 3 - 1 WELLINGTON PHOENIX. While the visitors had their chances, this was a thoroughly deserved win for the home side. They may have won by more had they been more clinical, despite being down to 10 men for half of this match.

C. Goodwin
Adelaide United
90' + 3' Substitution Craig Goodwin Jordy Thomassen
90' Four added minutes.
89' Another ball floated into the area is easily dealt with by Izzo. The Nix have done everything they can to work their way back into this match, but it has been in vain.
84' The Nix have the ball in the back of the net after a goalmouth scramble but the assistant referee has his flag raised for offside.  The VAR takes a look after some deliberaiton between the on-field officials, and the decision is upheld.  Krishna looks to be the man who had strayed offside from the original ball into the box.

Adelaide United
78' YELLOW CARD, ADELAIDE UNITED Goodwin goes in the book for a foul.
77' Williams' cross finds Krishna in the middle and the latter lays it off to Burgess.  On the edge of the box, he snatches at it while leaning back and it goes high in the stands.
Goal
72' GOAL, WELLINGTON PHOENIX. ADELAIDE UNITED 3 - 1 WELLINGTON PHOENIX. Mandi's shot from the edge of the area, after a corner that was worked along the ground, strikes the post and into the path of Sheridan who scores his first A-League goal.
G. Blackwood
N. Konstandopoulos
Adelaide United
67' SUB, ADELAIDE UNITED Nathan Konstandopoulos is off and on is George Blackwood.
64' Sheridan dribbles his way to the edge of the area, from the touchline, before floating a curling cross in for Sheridan. His header is over the bar.  The two substitutes have had an undoubted impact though.
60' Sheridan breaks clear through from Burgess' incisive pass through the middle. Sheridan goes round the goalkeeper but takes it too wide, preventing the shot as defenders get back. He pulls it back for Williams, but his shot is skied.
A. Golec
Yellow Card
Wellington Phoenix
59' YELLOW CARD, WELLINGTON PHOENIX Anthony Golec goes in the book for a sliding challenge that was late.
58' Once again, Singh is forced to shoot from distance and it is wide. Adelaide have played the first 13 minutes of this half perfectly.
C. Sheridan
R. Lowry
Wellington Phoenix
57' SUB, WELLINGTON PHOENIX. Cillian Sheridan comes on for Ryan Lowry.
53' Goodwin races clear down the left but Golec gets back to dispossess him. The Reds were two on two with the Nix but the left winger couldn't find the right option.
50' Close to 30 yards out, Isaias lets fly from a direct free-kick but it is just wide.
M. Burgess
A. Durante
Wellington Phoenix
48' SUB, WELLINGTON PHOENIX. Andrew Durante makes way and Max Burgess will come on, perhaps a sign that the Nix are ready to throw the kitchen sink?
46' Singh has a sighter from 30 yards, a curling effort, but it is easily saved.
45' SECOND HALF KICK-OFF
HALF-TIME: ADELAIDE UNITED 3 - 0 WELLINGTON PHOENIX. An extraordinary half indeed, a lead that the home side very much warrant. But can the Nix plot a comeback with the advantage of an extra man?
A. Stamatelopoulos
Red Card
Adelaide United
45' + 2' RED CARD, ADELAIDE UNITED. Maybe this contest isn't over after all.  Directly after scoring his second, Stamatelopoulos fouls Mandi after chasing the restart. It is high, late and with studs showing. The VAR advises the referee to check the footage after initially awarding a yellow, but the striker is off.
Goal
44' GOAL, ADELAIDE UNITED. ADELAIDE UNITED 3 - 0 WELLINGTON PHOENIX. After surviving their lead being halved a moment earlier, the Reds go up the other end and perhaps finish this game as a contest.  Once again it is the cross from out wide that does the trick, Goodwin's delivery is nodded home by Stamatelopoulos, straight at the goalkeeper but right through him.
42' The Nix win a corner and Singh delivers it on the head of Golec, but it is cleared off the line!
40' Krishna spreads the play out to Cacace, who cuts inside and lashes a shot, but he fails to get any real purchase on the attempt and it is easily saved.
39' Williams tries to chip it through for Krishna but the pass is too strong.
37' Williams plays it forward into an area and everybody gives up on the ball, which seems to be speeding over the byline. However it holds up on the turf and Cacace wins the race to it, but he can't pick a pass out from the side of the box.  In the last few minutes, the Nix have steadied the ship.
32' A cross towards the far post provides Cacace with the chance to half the deficit if he could have got his head on it, but he fails to show any real commitment to the aerial challenge and it trickles wide.
30' The resulting free-kick is floated forward, but wayward in terms of the penalty area.
A. Rufer
Yellow Card
Wellington Phoenix
29' YELLOW CARD, WELLINGTON PHOENIX Rufer gets his 10th booking of the season for a wild tackle.
24' Halloran turns provider this time, he crosses it from the right and it finds Goodwin but his volley is wild and goes back towards his own goal rather than at Wellington's. Still, the way this game is going it looks only a matter of time before the Reds go three up. They are ripping Wellington apart down the flanks.
22' A cross from Goodwin, clipped in from the left side, only needs the faintest of touches and it surely is in the back of the net. But it evades everyone, and Wellingon remain in this game, just.
R. Lowry
Yellow Card
Wellington Phoenix
18' YELLOW CARD, WELLINGTON PHOENIX Ryan Lowry goes into the book after a challenge from behind to prevent another Adelaide break.
Goal
16' GOAL, ADELAIDE UNITED. ADELAIDE UNITED 2 - 0 WELLINGTON PHOENIX. Another simple goal for the Reds doubles their lead inside 17 minutes.  Scott Galloway finds an inch or two of space on the right flank, just outside the area. He fizzes it into the area low and perfectly-weighted for Apostolos Stamatelopoulos to stroke it past the goalkeeper from eight yards.
12' Isaias finds Halloran in the area but all he can produce is an aimless scoop of the ball into the air, meat and drink for Kurto.
10' Adelaide United are yet to lose a match after scoring the opening goal this season, winning six and drawing two.
Goal
9' GOAL, ADELAIDE UNITED. ADELAIDE UNITED 1 - 0 WELLINGTON PHOENIX. After a break away earned them a corner, Craig Goodwin's in-swinging ball finds Michael Marrone and he manages to lose his man and nod it home from the edge of the six-yard area, a goal that is as simple as it comes.
6' Marrone loops a hopeful cross out for Goodwin, but it is overhit and the linseman flagged for offside anyway.  Still, the Reds are controlling possession early on.
2' Williams wins a foul inside the centre-circle before dusting himself off and just striking it towards goal, as quickly as he can. It trickles wide, hamlessnessly.
1' KICK-OFF We're underway at Coopers Stadium, conditions are perfect here.
