Per <a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/sport/football/article/thomas-tuchel-manchester-united-bayern-munich-stay-jf8x0d2pk" target="_blank">The Times</a>, Tuchel has entered negotiations with Bayern over staying in Germany, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/thomas-tuchel-to-leave-bayern-munich-bundesliga-part-ways-german-coach-in-summer-xabi-alonso-jurgen-klopp/blt430d3ab11a804d03" target="_blank">despite announcing his exit earlier this year</a>. Bayern have been searching for a replacement but have thus far been unable to reach an agreement with any prospective successors, and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-au/lists/thomas-tuchel-stay-harry-kane-manuel-neuer-thomas-muller-departure/bltde497e00e3fc160c#cs11a0781e7b4e2c09" target="_blank">senior players at the club are pushing for them to simply keep the ex-Chelsea manager</a>.

Bayern have lurched from one rejection to another in their managerial search, having targeted the likes of <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/eye-watering-crystal-palace-demand-derailed-bayern-munich-pursuit-oliver-glasner/blt44c128785349a349" target="_blank">Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner</a>, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/bayern-turn-champions-league-winning-hansi-flick-desperate-search-thomas-tuchel-replacement/bltaf45c5a234cc88e9" target="_blank">former boss Hansi Flick</a>, along with <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/erik-ten-hag-thomas-tuchel-swap-ideal-man-utd-bayern-munich-harry-kane-mason-mount-benefit/blt13a7dc52b66ad090" target="_blank">Manchester United's Ten Hag</a>. Of course, Tuchel was seen as a potential replacement for the Dutchman - <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/lists/erik-ten-hag-thomas-tuchel-swap-ideal-man-utd-bayern-munich-harry-kane-mason-mount-benefit/blt13a7dc52b66ad090" target="_blank">opening the door to a swap</a> - but it now appears that there may be a shocking U-turn.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tuchel's departure was announced in February amid a season in which Bayern have failed to win a trophy for the first time since 2012. However, despite Die Roten's collective struggles, the club have held talks with him to gauge his interest in staying, and his case is said to have been boosted by a strong, if ultimately unsuccessful, showing over two legs against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.
