Sam Morsy has hailed Wigan Athletic’s 2-1 victory over Hull City in Tuesday’s English Championship game.

The 27-year-old scored one of the goals as Paul Cook’s men held on to their first-half lead to secure the maximum points in the encounter, thus, returning to winning ways after Saturday’s loss to Brentford.

The win saw them move to the seventh spot in the log with 13 points from eight games and the Latics skipper has praised his side’s performance in the outing.

“[It] was a great win, another three points and it puts us on the brink of where we want to be,” Morsy told club website.

"The first half was brilliant and the only negative was the naive goal we conceded. We know why we conceded it and that's a good thing because it allows us to work on it.

"It's a good thing to still have lessons to learn when you win a game. They bombarded us in the second half, which teams will do when they have a real go.

"We stood strong. We've got young lads who are working hard and growing into their roles every week."

Also, the former Chesterfield midfielder saluted Will Grigg who assisted him for the opener.

"[Will] Griggy did brilliant in the build-up to our first goal, his hold up play is probably something that's underrated.

“The ball dropped for me, I drove forward through gaps I knew would be there with them playing 4-4-2, which is fair play to them because most teams come here and pack the midfield. The space was there, I went forward into it and managed to finish it off.

"I looked up and both Griggy and [Josh] Windass made good runs, it opened up for me and I just hit it as hard as I could.

On Friday, Wigan play host to Bristol City and Morsy is upbeat that their win against Hull City will motivate them for the clash.

“Friday will be a really tough game, but we're feeling good after tonight and we'll come back here with real confidence."
