India recorded an uplifting 1-0 win over defending Asian U16 champions Iraq in the WAFF U16 Boys' Championship in Amman, Jordan, on Sunday.
Bhuvenesh was the hero for Bibiano Fernandes' charges, netting a header in injury time. India were largely the dominant team and produced a good lot of chances.
Givson hit the post in the seventh minute as India made a good start.
Both Givson and Vikram were thorns in the Iraqi side's defence as they fashioned plenty of chances for themselves in the opening 30 minutes. Ravi also produced an acrobatic save from the Iraqi custodian before the half-time break.
Harpreet and Gurkirat were also in the thick of things but a goal eluded India. The young colts tightened their screws in the second half as they went for the lead but some desperate defending from Iraq kept them at bay.
Just as it seemed India would have to settle for a draw, Bhuvenesh came up with a header in injury time to give Bibiano's boys the lead which was seen out comfortably.
