Tunisia goal sets milestone as 2500th scored in World Cup history

Tunisia were never going to be favourites to progress past the group stage after losing to both Belgium and England, but can at least go out on a high note after their strike against Tunisia became the 2500th scored in World Cup finals history.

Fakhreddine Ben Youssef's equalising goal for Tunisia after the break was a milestone in the tournament's history, and the side can return home knowing that they have made their mark in the World Cup annals.

Panama and Tunisia were playing a dead rubber as the two already had been eliminated from Group G.

It wasn't the only notable moment in the game, however, as Panama's strike also meant that all 32 participating countries in Russia have scored at least twice so far.

It is the first time that such a feat has happened, even dating back to the 1930 tournament in Uruguay when there were just 13 teams involved.

Former Swedish international Marcus Allback scored the 2000th goal in the tournament's history against England in the 2006 edition, and Claudio Caniggia scored for Argentina against Nigeria in the 1994 edition to strike the 1500th.

Rob Rensenbrink of the Netherlands hit home against Scotland in 1978 to score the 1000th while Lucien Laurent scored the very first World Cup goal for France against Mexico in 1930.

Belgium and England progressed to the last 16 as Group G's qualifiers.
