Tosin Omoyele leads Plateau United past MFM FC

Reigning league champions, Plateau United have opened up a three-point gap at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League after they defeated last year’s runner-up, MFM by a lone goal in Jos on Saturday.

Tosin Omoyele’s second-minute effort was enough to hand the Peace Boys their fourth win of the campaign from five games and their rivals have been left to play catch up in the race for the league title again this season.

Plateau United had a sluggish pre-season campaign but they seemed to have shaken that off with an impressive performance, for the first time since the season started and they showed their intention to take home maximum points when Omoyele stabbed home from Chizoba Amaefule’s throw-in in the first real action of the game.

MFM woke up from their slumber as soon as the home team raced into an early lead and they forced Plateau United into conceding successive corner kicks but that resulted in nothing positive for the visitors.

With the home win, Plateau United have raced to 12 points from five games while MFM are on six points from as many games.
