The inaugural Wanderers coach won't be switching Sydney sides anytime soon

Former Western Sydney Wanderers coach Tony Popovic has squashed talk of a possible move to Sydney FC next season but hasn't ruled out a return to the A-League.

After leaving the red and black just a week out from the start of the season, Popovic traded Western Sydney for Karabukspor in Turkey's top flight.

The move wouldn't work out however with the former Crystal Palace assistant lasting less than three months with the struggling club cleaning house with Popovic and his coaching staff among the many that were sacked.

Having been back in Australia for over a month, Popovic was spotted at a Sydney FC game recently which sparked speculation that he was interested in replacing Graham Arnold.

Something the man himself stressed isn't and likely will never be the case.

"No, I haven't put my name in and that's not to say Sydney even want me as a coach," Popovic told Fox Sport's A-League Hour.

"But from a personal point of view that won't happen."

While he doesn't see himself in Sky Blue anytime soon, Popovic revealed he's open to a return to the A-League and doesn't solely have an eye on Europe.

"No, I wouldn't rule out the A-League now, I wouldn't rule out overseas," he said

"I think it all depends on what the opportunity is and then trying to make the best decision that you can do a good job in the new project wherever that may be...hopefully that'll be soon."

While his time with Karabukspor wasn't the fairytale experience he had with the Wanderers, Popovic still values the time he spent in Turkey.

Though losing the majority of his games in charge and still awaiting compensation, the 44-year-old chalks it up as good experience.

"Without a doubt, that education I had for ten odd weeks you can't buy that," he said.

"I'll learn from a few things there that I could've done slightly better or different.

"Hopefully that'll steer me better on this journey I'm on."
