The Black Star's good showing over the weekend did not go unnoticed

Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom is full of compliments for defender Andy Yiadom following the full-back's fine performance in Saturday's Championship fixture with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

On his return from injury, the Ghana international put up a commanding display as the two teams settled for a 0-0 draw at Oakwell Stadium.

It was the 26-year-old's 15th league appearance of the season, all starts.

"I thought the two centre-backs were excellent," Heckingbottom told iFollow.

"But I have to give a mention to Yids [Yiadom].

"He'd not trained all week, and if we were going off what the scans were telling us, he'd be looking at another two weeks out.

"But he trained on Friday, the only day that he has, and then he's gone out there and performed like that.

"So he deserves an enormous amount of credit."

Rumours say Yiadom is unlikely to end January at Barnsley, having been linked to Premier League side Swansea City.

He came close to sealing a move to the Jack Army in the summer, but the topflight's "unacceptable offer" - as described by Heckingbottom - scuppered the transfer.

Keen on moving up the ladder, Yiadom also undertook a medical with Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town, but the move fell through for unknown reasons.

The utility man, who represented Ghana at last year's Africa Cup of Nations, joined Barnsley from Barnet in 2016, having also played for Braintree Town and Hayes &Yeading FC.
