The Swiss star said he had nothing to worry about ahead of Liverpool's trip to Serbia next month

Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri insisted he could handle a trip to Serbia for his team's Champions League return clash against Red Star Belgrade.

The Switzerland international was fined during the World Cup after he celebrated a goal against Serbia by making an eagle gesture , a symbol similar to the one on the Albanian flag.

Granit Xhaka and Stephan Lichtsteiner also picked up fine over the celebration and, though Fifa FIFA had opened disciplinary proceedings against the Swiss players in the immediate aftermath, they avoided suspension during the tournament in Russia

Now Shaqiri, who starred for Liverpool against Red Star on Wednesday as his side recorded a comprehensive 4-0 victory at Anfield, is set for a rude reception when the Reds take on Red Star.

Despite having a hostile atmosphere awaiting Jurgen Klopp's men, the 27-year-old was confident he would be ready to face the challenge.

"I had this already at the World Cup so I know I can handle this no problem," Shaqiri said.

"I just saw a few articles where one player said something. I don't really care what people are saying."

Shaqiri downplayed any political issues heading into the match, saying he was only traveling to Serbia to play a football match.

"I just go there to play a football game," he said. "It is not about politics, it is about football. I worry about nothing and go to play."

Liverpool are top of Group C on six points ahead of the encounter in Belgrade on November 6.

Klopp's men face a pair of Premier League matches before returning to Champions League action, however.

Crystal Palace visit Anfield on Saturday, with a showdown against Arsenal await to open November.
