Serero makes winning start to life at Vitesse

South African midfielder Thulani Serero introduced himself to Vitesse’s faithful’s with a fine performance as he dazzled in the 4-1 win over NAC Breda in the Eredivisie on Saturday.

Thomas Bruns,  Bryan Linssen, Tim Matavz and Milot Rashica got the goals and Thierry Ambrose scored Breda’s consolation goal.

The 27-year-old, who joined from Ajax Amsterdam on a free transfer this summer, featured in a central-midfield trio in Henk Fraser’s 4-3-3 formation as the men from Arnhem got their season off to a strong start.

Despite failing to register a goal or an assist, the Bafana Bafana international was one for the standout performers for Vitas and completed more passes than any of his teammates.

This was Serero's first Dutch top-flight 90 minutes since 8 May 2016 when he featured for Ajax in the 1-1 draw against De Graafschap.

Having missed out on Stuart Baxter first Bafana squad due to lack of game time at Ajax, the Soweto-born midfielder will be hoping to make his return to the national team ahead of the back to back World Cup Qualifiers fixtures against Cape Verde on the 1st and 5th of September.
