When met by Goal ahead of Selangor's first leg Malaysia Cup quarter-final match against Kedah, the Red Giants' youngster Syahmi Safari remarked that their plan is to avoid conceding in the match.

"Unlike the previous two encounters this season which ended in 1-1 draws, this is a knockout tie. It is an important match as our target is to reach the semi-finals.

"Playing at home this Friday, we must avoid conceding and try scoring as many goals as possible before we head to Alor Star (for the return leg)," said Syahmi when met after team training on Thursday.

But regardless of the result of the first leg, Syahmi believes that Selangor can produce a positive result in the away fixture next weekend.

"Nothing is impossible, anything can happen in football. We have to work hard.

"Kedah are the favourites according to many, so we have to prove that we can go far," noted the 19-year old winger.

Coincidentally, the Selangor vs Kedah encounter will be the third consecutive time that the two teams meet in the knockout stage of the competition. Selangor and Kedah met in the final matches of the 2015 and 2016 editions, with the Red Giants lifting the 2015 title and the Red Eagles winning the following year.
